TRAFFIC
Vanasse & Associates, Inc. (VAI), a well respected traffic consulting firm, conducted a Traffic Impact and Access Study (TIAS) in order to determine the traffic impacts associated with the construction of the proposed mixed use development. Access to the Village will be provided by way of a full access driveway off of Route 1 and two full-access driveways off of Middle Road, with the easternmost driveway primarily serving the commercial portion of the development and the westernmost driveway primarily serving the residential portion of the development.

Traffic will increase in the area; however, VAI determined that the traffic impact can be adequately mitigated with an offsite roadway improvement program that will be paid for by the Developer. The program is designed to provide safe and efficient access to the site while minimizing impacts to motorists traveling along adjacent roadways. The Developer will pay for traffic improvements along Route 1 including the installation of permanent traffic lights at the intersections of Route 1 and Middle Road/Hanover Street and at the main entrance to the Village. Note that the traffic light recently installed at the intersection will be removed once the Route 1A bridge reopens.

In addition, upon consultation with residents and the Town, improvements will be made along Hanover Street, Middle Road, Scotland Road, and Highfield Road. Please see the environmental report for a summary of the proposed traffic mitigation (pages 9-11) and the complete traffic study. VAI's traffic study was reviewed by Taintor & Associates, Inc. acting as an independent consultant for the Town and their review of the report can be found by clicking here.
